Buttons!

This is - unfortunately - not to inform anyone of buttons linking to my blog :), but just regular old buttons. I needed to pick up some white buttons for these napkin holders I am making right now (pics later) and have been meaning to keep an eye out for a set of matching buttons. Well, I went to Michael's today to pick up some onesies for a friends baby shower (with my 50% off coupon!) and decided to do a little browsing....I knew they would have buttons! I ended up buying a decently sized bag full of random buttons for $5 and found some great finds! There were quite a few name brand buttons ranging from Abercrombie & Fitch to Baby Gap to DKNY! There was even one with a chili pepper on it and one with a bear (he's broken though)........I never thought I would be so excited about buttons! Well here are my finds.....I have separated them all by color now and have placed them in jars....and upon seeing how almost empty they looked I feel I need to go buy 2 or 3 more bags! This could be another collection in the making!

Sorry about the horrendous lighting, I didn't get home until 6:30 and it was unusually dark!! Damn you Daylight Savings Time!!!! lol, just kidding! maybe.

Does anyone else collect buttons? OR What do you all collect? Do share! I would like to know :)

Felt Super Sale!!

So I think that the crafting gods have been sending me some not-so-subtle hints that I need to start crafting some more. First off, two nights ago when I got home from work I had a mailer from JoAnns giving me lots (and I mean lots) of ideas for this upcoming holiday season and lots of coupons as well. I also noticed right away that they are having a sale on 9x12 inch sheets of felt.....they are normally .29 cents a piece and they have them on sale for 4 for $1! Now I was definitely excited but imagine my excitement when I opened the mailer for Michaels this week (which was left in the breakroom this morning from someones newspaper....and I'm the only crafty one in the building so I pilfered it)....they have them on sale for 5 for $1!!! (Cheap thrills people, they're great!) So, I did some shopping/craft therapy on my lunch break yesterday and got 20 sheets of felt!! I mainly wanted to get some more to replace what I have been using for one of the projects I have been working on for a while......they just don't seem to have that certain color at JoAnns that I need for my racc.......ummmm.....I'll leave it at that :) That project is sort of a secret......at least from the world of bloggers until I can get things down.

Anyway, this post is really just to inform any and all bloggers looking for cheap felt, who have a Michaels nearby, to go to Michaels before Sunday! I went today and they had already run out of a few colors so get to moving people! I did happen to pick up some festive holiday colors as well so maybe I can make something cute and Christmasy soon.

I ♥ Thrifting

Lately, I have been reading a lot of blogs that belong to some really crafty women. A lot of these crafty women seem to go thrifting fairly often. I don't know why, but I had not thought abought thrifting since moving to town nine years ago. When I was younger my mom used to take my sister and I into our towns antique stores quite often and we spent plenty of time just browsing the aisles seeing what they had in store for us that time. We always took our time browsing both sides of every aisle from the bottom to as close up to the top as we could get. It is something that I remember fondly from my childhood, and it always reminds my of my mother and my sister since it's a pasttime we all enjoyed together.

So, since I have been reading all these crafty blogs and seen all the goodies they seem to get out of their thrifting trips I decided to go on an outing myself. I didn't want to go by myself and I thought that this would be a good chance to spend some quality time with my sister (and get her out of the house since her cars currently inoperable). I picked Megan up and we went thrifting.....although we only managed to shop at 2 places we got quite the load of goodies! The first store we visited was Salvation Army, which is where I got all the great stuff you see below....

I bought three of the fondue sets, they were supposed to be $5 a piece but I got them for $10. The books were .10 a piece, and I got these four plus The Divine Secrets of The Ya Ya Sisterhood, and another one which name escapes me now.....my sister has them. (My mother, sister, and I all like to buy and trade books.) I got the treats jar for $2 and the Mad Libs books for free. Good find!

We are going to be moving in two weeks and I'm going to be placing this "Treats" jar by our backdoor for our dogs. When they are good outside or are good and calm when I have to clean their paws they will get a treat. Plus, it's such a cute jar it will look cute almost anywhere as well as help train! lol.

After we were finished shopping around at the Salvation Army I decided that we should go check out The Marketplace. It was a good idea, but this place is huge and it's more of an antique shop than thrift store in my eyes. I did manage to find the movie Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man - which my fiancee LOVES - and it was only $3 so I bought it. That was my only find from there. Oh well. That was the last of our shopping adventures as Megan (my sister) had to go home, but I'm sure there will be more thrifting with her from now on!

We also went shopping that Saturday (since it was the day before Mothers Day) so we could get moms present together. I already knew that I wanted to buy this frame for mom so I went to Michaels before I went to pick Megan up since Michaels (and my work) are all on the West side of town and Megan was on the East side. I ended up getting a bargain there as well!!

This frame was originally $14.99 and I got it for 40% off. The book boxes were originally $6.99 and I got those for 40% off as well. I brought in a 50% coupon in hopes of using it on the frame but I couldn't since it was already 40% off....so I searched for something to buy for 50% off. I've been eyeing the diamond paperweight for a while......originally it cost $9.99. I got it for $4.99. Sweet!

I was just SO excited about my finds that I had to share. I was hoping to go thrifting this weekend, but my checkbook defies me. I wanted to browse as well, but that might not have turned out well for me since I haven't made my debit card to where I can't overdraw......lol. So, I'm staying home and doing a little blogging....and since the weather is so crappy I have a feeling I will get quite a bit done. Now, I would like to work on creating a banner for myself....but what picture to choose? I'm thinking a mix-up of some of the cakes I've made and some the the plushies I've made.....we will see eventually. Maybe this amazing Windows 7 can help me out since it can help me with blog posts! hehe. Anyway, have a wonderful Saturday internetland.

Oh yes, I forgot to say what we got for mother. We ended up giving her the picture frame, setting a date to take pictures for the frame, the peace book box, and a fondue set. I like to think it was a good Mother's Day for her. I love making that woman happy!!! loves!

So I Start Class Tomorrow :)

I have officially signed up for Wilton Cake Decorating Course 1. I went tom Michaels on my lunch break and meandered around in the bakery and wedding aisle. I found a few things of interest. There was this wedding planner organizer - which is perfect for me since I love to organize - but the datebook in it was from 2009! The thing cost $40, but I think they could discount slightly for being outdated....he he. Just being a picky shopper which I know I shouldn't be. I also saw some really cute orange invitations but it was a set of 30 for $40. I'm not sure but I think I could probably get a computer program or find someone with one and make it for cheaper.

Anyway, to the point at hand. The first class is tomorrow night from 6:30 to 8:30 at Michaels. They told me that I do not have to bring my kit the first night just something to write on, which makes me believe we are making a list of what we need to make for the next class or three. I know that I have at least 2 good chocolate cake recipes but I haven't really done vanilla cake from scratch, I prefer chocolate. Cross your fingers we can choose so I can stick with what I know best!

To Be A Cake Decorator

I finally taken the first steps in baking and decorating my own cakes and have looked up prices and will be signing up for Wilton cake decorating classes for this month. There will be four classes, one each week. I believe that I will end up making four different cakes, at least that's the impression that I've gotten from all the reviews I've read.

My Aunt was generous enough this past Christmas to buy me a cake decorating set from Michaels. It's the Wilton cake decorating set that covers all the items you would need from courses 1-3, which is all the decorating courses. Which is pretty awesome. I'm getting this class for half-price from Michael's because they are running a special. Again......awesome.

So......once I start, which should be this Wednesday, I will start posting info on it.....kind of like a review. And, of course, to show off my work! Since this is something I could possibly end up doing to make money I would definitely like to show it off! :)
